Calculate the lcm

Enter two numbers whose lcm you want to determine.

First number:
Second number:

The lcm of two numbers ist their least common multiple, i.e. the smallest number divisible by both numbers.

What is the lcm needed for?

For example if you put two fractions on the same denominator. The smallest possible denominator of those fractions is the lcm of the denominators.

For example, lets compare 1/3 and 2/5. At first, it is not clear which fraction is larger. But the lcm of 3 and 5 is 15, so it is possible to put the fractions on the common denominator 15:

1/3=5/15 and 2/5=6/15 .

Now it is easily seen that 1/3 is smaller than 2/5 .
